Who I am

My name is Dan Ellis, middle name Joe.

I have always been the creative sort, writing short stories since I was very young, maybe 12 years old.

I was inspired by a videogame called Broken Sword which drew me into the fascinating history of the Knight’s Templar, and it made me really want to write my own adventure game.

When I was inappropriately young I discovered Stephen King’s The Shining, and I have been a fan ever since, reading many of his books.

It is no surprise then that I write my stories in the style of King.

Stephen King's writing style is immersive, conversational, and vividly detailed, drawing readers into worlds where the ordinary seamlessly blends with the supernatural. He crafts believable, deeply human characters through natural dialogue and psychological depth, grounding even the most extraordinary horrors in relatable, everyday settings.

King's prose is accessible yet rich in sensory detail, often employing a balance of suspenseful pacing, subtle foreshadowing, and moments of colloquial humour. His ability to evoke nostalgia and emotional connection through pop-culture references and realistic portrayals of human vulnerability ensures readers remain deeply invested, turning page after page.

I try to capture this in my writing, with a very cinematic focus. My stories are easy to read, not too fluffy with over-explaining or too much detail, and are designed to be page turners.

Thank you for your attention and support.
